PVL: Savi Davison, PLDT demolish Galeries Tower for winning start

The PLDT High Speed Hitters picked apart the Galeries Tower Highrisers in straight sets, 25-22, 25-6, 25-9, for a dominant start in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Arena on Thursday.

Savannah Davison delivered 19 points built on 16 attacks, two blocks and an ace to give newcomers Kim Fajardo, Majoy Baron, Shiela Kiseo and Kiesha Bedonia a triumphant team debut.

The Fil-Canadian outside hitter also made her presence felt in the defensive end, producing nine digs and eight receptions.

Jules Samonte stepped up in the absence of Kianna Dy, who is still recuperating from an injury. She put up 15 markers anchored on four aces while contributing 10 excellent digs.

"Happy na naka-execute kami ng maayos," told PLDT head mentor Rald Ricafort after the match.

"Happy na first game nasalang agad iyong mga bago and na-ikot naman iyong mga players so happy kami na naka-perform lahat."

After a close-quarter opening frame, the High Speed Hitters kicked their offense into higher gear and asserted dominance with a lead as high as 19 in the second set.

PLDT then carried over momentum in the decisive third canto, mounting a commanding 18-6 cushion and preserving the lead the rest of the way.

Fajardo, the starting playmaker in lieu of Rhea Dimaculangan, fanned 11 excellent sets on top of two points. Meanwhile, Fiola Ceballos and Baron contributed seven and four markers.

No Highriser scored in double figures.

Norielle Ipac paced the losing side with seven points.

The PLDT High Speed Hitters' next assignment will be against the Nxled Chameleons on February 27, Tuesday, at the PhilSports Arena at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Galeries Tower Highrisers will aim to enter the win column when they face the Cignal HD Spikers on March 2, Saturday, at the PhilSports Arena at 2 p.m.
