The Creamline Cool Smashers’ latest championship meant a great deal to the players, coaching staff, and management.

But this title is a bit more special for Jema Galanza as she celebrated the victory with her younger sister Mafe.

This was the first time that the Galanza sisters played for the same team—and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

As Jema continued to shine in the finals, her younger sister also got a bit of the spotlight after performing well in Game 1 of the finals

The younger Galanza came in as a substitute in the second and fourth sets to back up Kyle Negrito.

She was brought in specifically for that reason after the Cool Smashers had to deal with the departure of Jia De Guzman.

Speaking on One Sport’s The Game, Jema had nothing but praises for her younger sister, who showed that she is, indeed, a good fit for the Cool Smashers.

“Thank you rin kasi sinave niya rin kami kasi siya din naman 'yung nag-fill in kay Ate Jia (de Guzman) nung nawala siya,” said Galanza. “Nandun siya to support Kyle (Negrito) kasi mahirap 'yung trabaho ni Kyle na siya lang mag-isa, so nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya.”

Prior to her joining Creamline, Mafe last saw action for the UST Golden Tigresses in 2019. But now that she’s back in the court, it seems like the younger Galanza has been regaining her confidence once morenot bad for someone who, according to Jema herself, was having doubts about playing volleyball again.

“Nailabas niya din 'yung laro niya ulit,” said Galanza. “Nakita ko din kung gaano siya ka-happy, nakita ko rin na gusto niya ulit maglaro ng volleyball kasi hindi po 'yan 'yung una namin na nag-usap kami bago siya mag-Creamline.”

It’s not easy playing for a team like the Cool Smashers, especially with how a championship is expected from the team every conference. But in the eyes of her older sister, Mafe has grown to be a dependable option for Creamline.

“Alam naman natin na grabe ang mata ng tao sa Creamline, so 'yun talaga 'yung iniisip niya, kino-consider niya kung gugustuhin siya sa team, so ngayon, laki ng ginrow niya talaga (sa Creamline),” said Galanza.

PVL and Creamline fans can expect more minutes for Mafe next season as she continues to grow with the team.
