Jolina dela Cruz pens message to Vanie Gandler, gives subtle hint ahead of semifinals

The longtime rivalry between Ateneo and La Salle makes ex-Rivermaya bandmates Rico Blanco and Perf de Castro look like BFFs. Unsurprisingly, the two universities are nemeses as well when it comes to volleyball. That’s why some might be shocked to see spikers from the bitter rivals get friendly with one another.

Well, what do you know, former La Salle star Jolina dela Cruz and former Ateneo ace Vanie Gandler are actually close friends.

Now in the PVL, the two outside hitters are still playing for different teams as Gandler is with the Cignal HD Spikers and dela Cruz is with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers. Still, their friendship remains rock-solid.

Last Monday, Gandler celebrated her 23rd birthday. And of course, her girl had to holler.

“Happy birthday to the best girl @vaniegandler! Know that I’m grateful for our genuine friendship. Love you! You deserve a good prize this year,” dela Cruz posted on her Instagram Story.

The F2 Logistics star’s greeting was quite touching. It was also a wish for Gandler and Cignal to do well in their upcoming semifinals campaign in the PVL Second All-Filipino Conference.

Does that also mean that dela Cruz is rooting for the HD Spikers to win it all? She did add a trophy emoji to her message.

Cignal made it to the semifinals as the third seed, with Gandler helping out the squad to amass an 8-3 card. They are set to face the number two seed Choco Mucho Flying Titans in a best-of-three series starting this Saturday.

Should dela Cruz’s encouraging words materialize, Gandler and the HD Spikers might just survive the surging Flying Titans and make it to the finale.

For sure, Ate Jolina, who unfortunately injured her leg in the Cargo Movers' final game of the tournament, would feel a lot better.
