Can this version of Barangay Ginebra be considered a dynasty?

Can this version of Barangay Ginebra be considered a dynasty?

Nope. Not yet. At least that’s what other PBA fans feel about Barangay Ginebra and dynasty in one sentence.

Fresh off another historic PBA Commissioner’s Cup championship, Barangay Ginebra forward Jared Dillinger ignited the dynasty talk on Twitter.

The league veteran tweeted, “At what point is a team considered a dynasty? Asking for a friend.”

Merriam-Webster defines a dynasty as “a succession of rulers of the same line of descent” and “a powerful group or family that maintains its position for a considerable time.”

It could be argued that Barangay Ginebra has maintained its winning ways since breaking out of their eight-year title drought in 2016.

The crowd favorite won at least one title every season since the 41st season’s Governors’ Cup.

But some fans argued that the Gin Kings should not be crowned as a dynasty without a Grand Slam.

Using that logic, only four franchises could be considered as PBA dynasties: the Crispa Redmanizers, the 1989 San Miguel Beermen, the 1996 Alaska Milkmen, and the 2013-14 San Mig Super Coffee Mixers.

There will be thousands of arguments and counterarguments why Barangay Ginebra can or cannot be considered a dynasty.

For now, the only sure thing is this debate will only be put to rest with more championships.
