RR Pogoy watched on as his TNT teammates bowed to San Miguel, 92-77 in Game 6 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Finals Sunday, Feb. 1.

As bad as he wanted to step out and play, there’s nothing Pogoy could do to help the Tropang 5G, who now lost back-to-back All-Filipino Finals against the Beermen.

It’s not as though he didn’t try.

“Ganun talaga sa basketball eh. Nagturok sana ako kanina, nagpa-inject ako. Tinry ko talaga kaso 'di talaga kaya,” he said after the match at the Mall of Asia Arena.

In Game 4, the TNT gunner aggravated a hamstring injury that already forced him to sit out the first two matches of the best-of-seven showdown.

He admitted feeling bad being reduced to a spectator when the Tropang 5G needed him the most.

“Oo (nakakakaba) kasi wala kang magawa. Pag nasa loob ka may magagawa ka so nawawala 'yung kaba,” he said.

Now that their conference is over, Pogoy will focus on his recovery in time for the Commissioner’s Cup set to open March 11.

“Pahinga lang talaga. Mas lalo siyang lumaki, 'yung strain nung pangalawa. Kaya kailangan ko pahinga,” he said.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
