San Miguel big man Rodney Brondial allayed fears of his missing Game 3 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup Finals.

Brondial sprained his left ankle in the Beermen’s eventual 111-92 win in Game 2 Friday, Jan. 23.

“OK lang naman. Basic lang na injury, hindi naman malala," Brondial told a handful of reporters at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

"Hindi na ako pinabalik para mapahinga. Maaga pa naman ang series."

The incident happened during a rebound play with 2:08 left in the third period, as Brondial appeared to have landed on a TNT player's foot.

He needed to be assisted back to the bench and didn’t return.

Before sitting out the rest of the match, the former Adamson standout had six points and 12 rebounds.

“Hindi ko alam (what happened). Ang bilis din ng pangyayari. Nakatapak siguro ako ng paa. Pero masakit kasi narinig kong tumunog, eh,” he said.

“Masakit talaga noong una. Pero noong tsinek namin, wala naman. Kasi naka-tape din naman ako.”

Game 3 is set Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, with the Beermen looking to build on their dominant victory to grab the lead for the first time in the best-of-seven series.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
