Converge finally got what it wanted and acquired the signing rights to Dave Ildefonso from Titan Ultra.

The PBA on Friday, October 24, approved the move that will also see the Giant Risers get Kobe Monje and two future draft picks.

The FiberXers traded away their second round pick in Season 51 and its first rounder the succeeding year.

The No. 5 overall pick last season, Ildefonso can now join his father Danny at Converge, where the latter serves as part of the coaching staff.

While giving up their future picks proved to be difficult decision, Cayabyab said Ildefonso could be just what the doctor ordered for the FiberXers.

"It was a tough call. But looking at our young team, we know that we need Dave as his position is also our missing piece," Converge governor Archen Caybyab in a post on PBA’s website.

"We want to be competitive and give Boss Dennis Anthony Uy a championship and getting Dave is a great addition."

Ildefonso is currently playing for Abra in the MPBL.

But his impending arrival at Converge will make the already-stacked team more formidable with Justine Baltazar, Justin Arana, Alec Stockton, Schonny Winston, and super rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño leading the charge.

"Finally, we can now breathe a sigh of relief," said Cayabyab, whose team currently holds a 2-1 record in the ongoing Philippine Cup.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
