For Jerrick Ahanmisi, his unexpected reunion with his older brother Maverick at Terrafirma is more than just a family affair — it’s a chance to change how people see the Dyip and their place in the PBA.

“I don’t even think that this was going to happen in our professional careers, but now that we are on the same team, hopefully we can kind of swing some heads and make people look at Terrafirma a little bit differently now,” Jerrick said in an interview in Noli Eala's Power & Play.

While easier said than done, Terrafirma showed an encouraging sign early in the season after bouncing back from a season-opening loss with a 97–91 victory over the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup.

Jerrick contributed 14 points, including crucial baskets down the stretch that helped the Dyip stave a late rally.

Now sharing the court with his brother, the younger Ahanmisi believes their chemistry could help bring out the best in each other.

“We’re going to play freely and as comfortably as we can because you’re playing with a family member. There shouldn’t be any restriction to your game,” he said.

Jerrick joined Terrafirma last August after Magnolia traded him — along with a second-round pick — in exchange for Javi Gomez de Liano.

Two months later, fate intervened when Maverick, alongside Aljon Mariano, were shipped from Barangay Ginebra to the Dyip in exchange to the latter's 2027 first-round pick.

For the 28-year-old gunner, the reunion was as surprising as it was meaningful.

“At first, I was shocked. It’s something I couldn’t believe could happen, but it’s also what brothers dream of. He called me and told me how excited he was that we’re going to be on the same team," he shared.

And under new head coach Ronald Tubid and side-by-side with his brother, Ahanmisi is ready to put the work.

"Hopefully, we can do something great together in Terrafirma,” he hoped.

The Dyip aim for back-to-back wins when they face the Converge FiberXers at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
