Calvin Abueva did the heavy lifting for Titan Ultra in its first game. But that was not to be Saturday, Oct. 11, as he suffered an injury against Converge in PBA 50.
After Calvin Abueva posted his career-high 41 points in Titan Ultra's shocker over Meralco just three days ago, hope naturally followed.
But not for long.
Unfortunately for the Giant Risers, Abueva could not sustain his explosive play early in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup.

Abueva extended his hamstring in their subsequent 92-129 loss to Converge at the Ynares Center in Montalban Saturday, Oct. 11.
The Kapampangan star sustained the injury in the first quarter and needed to sit out the rest of the match.
Before leaving the floor, he made two points and grabbed one rebound in 4:47 of play.
Without him, Titan Ultra trailed by as many as 39 points, even with Joshua Munzon topscoring for the team with his game-high 31 markers.
It did not help that Juan Gomez de Liano made a splash in his league debut, firing a triple-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
