Sonny Estil had never gotten a taste of the triangle system until he went to practice with new team Ginebra in the PBA.

Two weeks since dipping his toes into the intricacies of the vaunted offense, the incoming rookie admitted he is still in the adjustment period.

“Never ako nakapag play na triangle offense, ngayon pa lang. Adjusting lang,” he told reporters during the PBA Media Day Friday, Sept. 26.

“Mabilis naman 'yun, mabilis naman siguro makukuha 'yun. Magaan na lang maglaro [kapag] kabisado mo na paano galawan.”

Not surprisingly, the surprise first round pick by the Gin Kings in the recent Draft is loving the system that has won coach Tim Cone 25 PBA titles.

“Maganda 'yung triangle offense. Lahat mao-open. Lahat makakatira,” he said.

The Draft Combine MVP knows donning the Ginebra jersey comes with gigantic expectations from fans.

He is ready to embrace the pressure.

So long as he is putting premium on hustle on the defensive end, the high-leaper knows he can handle everything else.

“Yung paano ako maglaro, hustle. Siyempre kung may opportunity umiskor, iiskor. Kasi triangle offense naman 'yan, kung sino mao-open (pwede tumira),” he said.

“Yun gusto ni coach, kung sino open tira lang. Pagdating sa depensa, depensa talaga, hustle.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
