Not a few believe Stanley Pringle is the missing piece Rain or Shine needs to get over the hump.

But as much as he wants that to happen, Pringle knows it’s not going to be that simple.

“Oh, that's the goal. I think that's the goal. You know, every team you play on, you want to want to get a championship. But that's really hard,” he told reporters during the PBA Media Day.

The four-time PBA champion with Ginebra is the newest addition to the Rain or Shine team that made the semifinals four straight times but never broke through.

It is hoped the former Best Player of the Conference’s arrival will make a world of difference for Rain or Shine.

But first, Pringle said they still have to get the hang of playing with each other.

“So I think I always say step by step, you know, it takes a while. You know, you got to practice together, work on the team chemistry and you can't just jump the gun and say, oh, we're going to win a championship,” he added.

“You got to, you know, step by step. And hopefully the pieces that he put together, it'll be the one, it'll be the next conference.”

Fortunately for the former PBA Scoring Champion, that process has been as easy as scoring so far.

It also helps he played for coach Yeng Guiao in Gilas Pilipinas Asian Games stint in 2018.

“It's been great. Since the flight here, maybe eight hours right off the flight, we're straight to practice and all the players have been supportive, you know, teaching me the plays, even if I pretty much knew a lot of their plays already,” he said.

“But they've been helping me, you know, just if I missed the cut or whatever, it was quick to correct me. So it's been easy for me. Easy transition.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
