Jude Codiñera shares the advice he got from his dad and Purefoods great Jerry ahead of the PBA Season 50 Draft.
As a son of a PBA legend, Jude Codiñera certainly has big shoes to fill.
The son of Purefoods great Jerry Codiñera knew comparisons would come once he applied for the draft, but he does not really mind.
After all, the younger Codiñera wants to make a name for himself.
“I talk to him about it. Sinasabi ko na if may nagku-compare sa'kin, kinukuwento ko sa kaniya. Tinatawanan lang namin. We play different naman, eh,” Jude told some reporters during the second day of the Draft Combine Friday, Sept. 5.

That’s why before joining the rest of the league hopefuls in the combine, he got the most apt advice from the five-time PBA champion.
“Sabi niya lang, do your best, excel, please the coaches, be a good teammate. Don’t overdo 'yong trabaho mo kasi role player ka,” Jude said.
“Don’t try to be an outstanding scorer, because that’s not really what you are, that’s not how you were brought up. Kung ano ang ipinagagawa ni coach, just do it.”

The Codiñera patriarch showed up on the last day of the Combine to support his son at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
While he’s not trying to be like his dad, Jude is hopeful he can make a name for himself should he get the chance to play in the PBA.
“Gusto ko talagang mag-basketball. It’s in my blood to play basketball. Siguro naman, if my dad can do it, I hope even a little bit rubs off on me,” he said.
