There is loss in gain for TNT.

As they jumped to a third consecutive victory in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup, the Tropang 5G saw an ace go down with an injury.

This after Rey Nambatac suffered a groin injury in the fourth period of the 101-84 win over Meralco at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, May 11.

This was the initial diagnosis of team physical therapist Dexter Aseron.

Asked about it after the match, TNT coach Chot Reyes shook his head in frustration before responding to the question.

“He’s a huge part of our team. He does so many things for us. I hope that he (Aseron) is wrong,” Reyes said.

It’s a big blow for a team that has just found its groove after a frustrating 0-3 start to the conference.

Fortunately for Reyes, TNT doesn’t play until May 21 against Rain or Shine.

That should give Nambatac enough time to recuperate from the injury.

Reyes and the rest of the Tropang 5G, however, have no other recourse but to fill the gaping hole left by the spitfire guard, who was named Finals Most Valuable Player in their Commissioner’s Cup conquest.

“But it’s one of the other challenges that we have to face moving forward,” Reyes said.
