Alex Cabagnot is moving on from active PBA play, taking his talents to the UE Red Warriors coaching staff in the UAAP.
(UPDATED) One of the winningest players in PBA history in Alex Cabagnot is moving on from active play.
Cabagnot is set to step back from the PBA as he focuses on his new post as part of the UE Red Warriors coaching staff in the UAAP.
One of the most clutch players in PBA history, Cabagnot clarified that he's not quite retired yet though.
On Monday, the Converge FiberXers bid farewell to the veteran point guard.
“You may be hanging up the jersey, but your legacy remains both in the #ConvergeFiberXers and in the PBA. Thank you, Alex Cabagnot!” the team originally wrote. The post has since been updated.
Last year, Cabagnot signed with Converge, marking a PBA comeback after a brief stint in the KBL with the Goyang Sono Skygunners and with the Taiwan Mustangs.
Drafted second overall in 2005 by Sta. Lucia, Cabagnot’s PBA career is marked by his significant contributions to the San Miguel Beermen’s famed “Death 5” lineup with June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, and Chris Ross.
Cabagnot is a nine-time PBA champion and Finals MVP of the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup.
He is also a former PBA All-Star MVP and won PBA Comeback Player of the Year in 2015.
