Alagang Kapatid Foundation (AFK) executive director Menchi Silvestre expressed gratitude to the PBA for extending aid for the victims of Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine.”

This was after the oldest professional basketball league in Asia announced it is donating proceeds from the Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals opener between the Ginebra Gin Kings and TNT Tropang Giga to help in the recovery efforts.

“Thousands of families are going through so much loss because of the effects of Tropical Storm Kristine. Some have lost a loved one. Some, their entire possessions. Some are losing HOPE,” Silvestre said in a statement.

“We thank the entire PBA for choosing to give hope and standing by our Kapatids.”

“Kristine” has left a trail of destruction after bringing severe floods and landslides to Luzon, with the Bicol region incurring the most damage. Based on the forecast track of PAGASA, "Kristine" has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PBA chairman Ricky Vargas bared in Thursday’s press conference the league will extend a helping hand by way of AKF.

“Yung ibibigay ng PBA para sa mga nasalanta sa baha, we will entrust it to Alagan Kapatid Foundation ng TV5,” said Vargas.

”Alagang Kapatid will report on how they used the proceeds that was given to them by the PBA.”

It is also not the first time the two joined hands.

In 2019, the league also donated P1M to the foundation to those affected by the earthquakes in Mindanao. Two years later, the commissioner Willie Marcial raised funds for AKF’s relief operations in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.
