After a near eight-year reign, Jimmy Alapag has been dethroned as the PBA’s all-time 3-point king.

San Miguel’s Marcio Lassiter took the title from the “Mighty Mouse,” firing six triples in the Beermen’s record win over Brgy. Ginebra in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup.

After the game, Lassiter’s new total is 1,254 triples and counting, now at least four ahead of Alapag’s career tally of 1,250.

One Sports sought Alapag’s comments on Marcio’s milestone before Lassiter officially broke the record, but the PBA great now sent his congratulations himself.

Posting on social media, Alapag urged Marcio to continue raising the bar even after he assumed the 3-point title.

“Continue to raise the bar for the next generation of PBA players who now have a new record to chase after,” Alapag wrote.

Following his record-breaking night, Lassiter was asked about the man he dethroned and Marcio was appreciative of his former Gilas Pilipinas teammate and assistant coach with the Beermen.

“Just to think of Jimmy, he’s one of the greatest to ever do it, obviously, in both the national team and the PBA,” he said.

“It was great because we were teammates before in Gilas, and I saw firsthand what it was. So thank you, Jimmy, for everything," he added.
