Easily among the best local players not playing in the PBA right now is Gilas Pilipinas stalwart Dwight Ramos.

It’s been a lot of what ifs for Dwight with regards with him playing in the Philippines. What if the pandemic didn’t cut his Ateneo stint before it even began, would he be a UAAP champion right now?

If so, would he have been a high pick in the recently-concluded PBA Season 49 Draft?

The prospects of that will remain what ifs for now, but Ramos himself is not closing the chances of him playing in the Philippines, specifically in the PBA, down the line.

“I think so, eventually. I don’t when, but hopefully,” Ramos said on the PBA topic during an event co-hosted by Lawson and his Japan B1 team Levanga Hokkaido.

Speaking of Hokkaido, Dwight re-upped with his squad based in northern Japan for what would be his third season with them.

Overall, Ramos will be entering his fourth B.League season this year, after spending his first season with the Toyama Grouses.

Dwight’s “eventually” could be a while.

The overseas grind has a lot of pros and a set of cons, which Dwight understands. Every variable helps form informed decisions for players like him on where they want to play, and the grind abroad is probably what led to some of his contemporaries to come home.

It could be the reason he comes home in the future too.

“I think it’s hard playing overseas. It’s not your home country, you don’t feel as comfortable, and then you’re by yourself for like almost a whole year,” he said.

“And so when you do it over the years, you kind of feel like you’re missing out on a lot of things. You’re missing your family… that’s probably what those guys felt and they just wanted to come home and play in the Philippines. They’re all gonna do great here.”
