The Bro looked like his old flamboyant self on the court.
Left alone with Larry Muyang on top of the key, Terrence Romeo took two dribbles left, then soared for a fade away jumper that kissed the bottom of the net.
The basket gave the San Miguel Beermen an 87-80 lead early in the fourth period, and they went on to drub the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 117-96, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Christmas Day.
Romeo would later score on an off-balanced layup as the Beermen formally claimed a quarterfinal berth with a 6-3 win-loss card.
“Nasa mind ko lang na maging aggressive,” when asked what his mindset was during the second half where he dropped 15 of his 22 points. “Thankful ako sa tiwala ni coach Jorge (Gallent), kahit di ‘ko makuha nung first half shots ko.”
With such an explosive performance, Gallent has no doubt in his mind his prized scorer is back.
“Terrence played how he really plays. Today he’s Terrence Romeo,”Gallent said of Romeo, who dealt with a bruised knee the past month. “He’s back. When he’s doubled, he passed the ball. When not, he took the shot.”
Thanks to Gallent’s trust, Romeo’s quiet start didn’t dampen his confidence one bit. Once he got his groove, there was no stopping Romeo.
“Lagi lang sinasabi ni coach na darating din mga tira ko. Hindi nagbabago mentality ko kahit nagmi-miss ako,” said Romeo, who also had three rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
