New Barangay Ginebra San Miguel import Tony Bishop gave Tim Cone the highest of praise as he compared the PBA's winningest coach to one of the greatest basketball minds.
In an interview with One Ph's Power and Play, the 34-year-old import said the 25-time champion and the maestro behind Gilas Pilipinas' gold medal run in the Asian Games reminds him of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
"He’s a really great guy. He reminds me a lot of Greg Popovich. I worked out with Greg (for) two weeks, with the Spurs a few years back," Bishop explained.
"He’s like him in what he thinks about the game, methodical, going through the stuff, the game plan, and our plays, making sure we’re on the right spot."
Cone being compared to Pop is not a surprise though given his resume and history.
What tops off an already legendary career is Cone's attitude off the court and how he treats his players.
"Off the court, he’s a great guy, he’s a loving individual. He’s a great person," Bishop said another compliment for Cone.
That good relationship will be a good thing for Ginebra as Bishop tries to fill in the void left by Justin Brownlee for the back-to-back PBA Commisisoner's Cup title.
