It was probably a trip to memory lane for RJ, too.
KBL standout RJ Abarrientos was in a celebratory mood on Sunday. Of course, it’s Father’s Day, and Abarrientos made sure to greet one of the father figures in his life, PBA great Johnny Abarrientos.
RJ threw it back to several moments in his youth that he spent with Uncle Johnny by his side. They might even have a signature pose: the peace sign, as seen on the photos in the Facebook post of the former Gilas Pilipinas guard.
Still, maybe the most notable photo in there is the oldest—where a pre-teen (it seems) RJ posed with Johnny and another PBA alumnus in Peter June Simon.
It’s evident that The Flying A has had an immense impact on the life of the younger Abarrientos, and these photos are just proof of the former Alaska guard’s presence in his nephew’s life. No wonder RJ looks up to the 1996 PBA MVP as the greatest to ever lace them up.
“Happy Father’s Day, GOAT!” The 5-foot-11 guard wrote on social media.
And that impact has certainly spilled over to the court, as RJ has also become a prolific guard himself—making a name in the UAAP, Gilas, and now the KBL—winning the Rookie of the Year award as part of Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus.
It's hard to hate on RJ's GOAT pick because, well, it's in the genes.
