PBA commissioner Willie Marcial clears air about Delta Pineda’s board rejection

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial clears air about Delta Pineda’s board rejection

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial has personally reached out to Pampanga Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda following the league's decision to reject his appointment as the Converge FiberXers’ team governor.

Speaking with former PBA commissioner Noli Eala on the program Power and Play, the current commissioner shared his recent chat with Pineda following the board’s decision.

“Sinabi ko naman talaga na consensus na eh. Hindi na umabot sa botohan,” said Marcial, who confirmed earlier reports that the decision was due to Pineda's links to the political arena.

“Ang inaano yata apolitical, so sinabi ko kay Gov. Delta 'yan. Sabi naman niya, ‘Oo naintindihan ko, Comm,’” added Marcial.

Pineda was initially designated as Converge's consultant upon their entry into the league. Subsequently, he was promoted to the position of team manager.

However, his attempt to become Converge's representative to the PBA Board was rejected unanimously last week.

In a statement, Converge team owner Dennis Uy expressed his profound disappointment regarding the decision.

He also conveyed his unwavering confidence in Pineda's capabilities and belief that Pineda can lead the team and the league towards progress.

"Just as other PBA leaders past and present worked tirelessly for PBA's success, Governor Pineda will undoubtedly do the same for the league, if not more," Uy said in the statement.

"We believe that new ideas, fresh perspectives, and better and stronger competition which Gov. Pineda would definitely bring to the PBA could only attract a wider, bigger fan base for our players and the league," the team owner added.

When asked if he will speak to Uy about the PBA Board of Governors’ decision, Marcial sees no reason to withhold any further talks.

“Makikipag-usap naman kami kay Boss Dennis Uy. Tignan natin, kailangan ma-resolba ng magandang usapan,” said Marcial. “Kaya kailangan pag-usapan kasi meron tayong polisiya na kailangan majority na boto ay pumapayag ang board.”

While that is going on, the FiberXers will look to strengthen their preparations for next season as they take part in the league's preseason round-robin play called ‘PBA On Tour.’ The games begin on Sunday.
