Kai Sotto is taking his limited exposure in the NBA Summer League in stride.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Sotto shared photos of him donning the Orlando Magic uniform including a verse from the Bible.
“Romans 8:18: ‘The pain that you've been feeling, can’t compare to the joy that’s coming,’” one photo read.
The 7-foot-3 NBA hopeful also quoted Tony Robbins in the same post's caption.
“No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying."
It appears the Filipino wunderkind is keeping a positive outlook after the NBA Summer League that saw him put up 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 13 minutes against the Portland Trailblazers.
While it was a solid debut for Sotto, it didn’t get better in the following game against the Boston Celtics. He wound up scoreless on 0-of-3 shooting from the field while netting two rebounds and an assist at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
It was revealed later he suffered from back pains.
It’s not clear what his immediate plan is after this tournament. What is certain is that Kaiju is eager to come back stronger, whether it’s with Gilas Pilipinas or in the Japan B.League.
“Always thankful for the opportunities and blessings no matter how things turn out. I’ll be back,” he said.
