Is Kai Sotto NBA-ready?

His agent, Tony Ronzone of the sports agency Wasserman, believes so. It also means, however, that more work has to be done.

“He’s there. It’s just a matter of him taking the next step,” Ronzone told former PBA commissioner Noli Eala in an interview. “He’s right there, it’s just a matter of him grabbing it.”

The good news, according to Ronzone, is Sotto already has several bases covered in terms of being an NBA-caliber talent.

“Skill-wise, he’s got it. You can’t teach height. You can’t teach his ability to score, shoot the 3-ball. Most bigs can’t shoot the 3-ball, Kai can shoot the 3-ball,” the veteran agent elaborated.

To maximize the chances of the 21-year-old cager, Ronzone and the rest of Kai’s team are sending him to more camps and workouts to further hone his skills and get him more exposure.

Specifically, Kai is joining a couple more mini-camps with NBA teams. After which, he will take part in the NBA Summer League.

“We’re escalating it quickly because we’re trying to get him ready. And again we’re coming up soon to two more mini-camps, we got continuous workouts, and we got Summer League," Ronzone said further.

“It’s all within the next month.”

Sotto and Ronzone, who sat down with Eala for an interview via videoconferencing, are expected to reveal more of their plans when the full interview airs on Saturday on the program Power and Play.

How these plans will affect Sotto’s availability for the FIBA World Cup remains to be seen, but like what the 7-foot-3 center already said, he has yet to rule out suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas.
