Tuesday marked a special day for Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Not only did the Heat defeat the Utah Jazz 119-115,  the victory also resulted in Spoelstra making NBA history, as he achieved his 697th win and moved up to the 20th position on the all-time wins list for head coaches.

The Filipino-American coach was previously tied with former New York Knicks head coach Red Holzman at 696 wins. He is set to surpass 19th placer and former Phoenix Suns tactician John MacLeod next, who has 707 wins.

Spoelstra has been the head coach of the Heat for 15 seasons and counting. During which, he has won two NBA Championships, reached the NBA Finals five times, and has a coaching record of 697-486 in 1,183 regular season games and 161-96 in 257 playoff games.

He is the second-longest-tenured head coach in the NBA after Gregg Popovich.

Coach Spo has also had the pleasure of mentoring some of the NBA's greatest players of all time, like Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, and Jimmy Butler.

In the past three seasons, the Heat have been to the Conference Finals twice, even making the NBA Finals in 2020.

Spoelstra has his eyes on another playoff run, as the Heat hold a 37-33 record this season, ranking seventh in the Eastern Conference.
