The Filipino basketball prodigy is set to play for one of best teams in the Japan B.League.
Filipino basketball star Kai Sotto is set to play for one of the Japan B. League’s best teams in the Hiroshima Dragonflies. Earlier this February, both the organization and Sotto himself, made the announcement across their social media pages. A couple of weeks later, the 7-foot-2 center has arrived in the city that will launch the next phase of his career.
On Monday night, Sotto posted a story on his Instagram documenting the first step of his journey in the Land of the Rising Sun.

As of this writing, the Dragonflies are in fifth place in the B1 League standings with a 28-10 win-loss record. Of course, the squad is expected to get even better with the arrival of the 20-year-old pivot from the Philippines. It’s no secret that Sotto’s new team has been longing for his services since last year. The burning desire to acquire the former Ateneo Blue Eaglet must be an indication of an important role waiting for him with the Dragonflies.
Having officially begged off from Gilas Pilipinas who’ll play on the 24th and the 27th of February for the sixth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Sotto seems locked in to make a good impression in Hiroshima. It shouldn’t be a surprise, though, given Sotto’s ultimate goal.
Kai’s dream has always been to suit up in the NBA. And playing in Japan is part of his plan in making it a reality. With the Hiroshima Dragonflies committing to support Sotto’s aspirations, as stated in their website, they certainly deserve the full focus of their prized recruit. Well, the Kaiju has landed. It’s only a matter of time until we get to see a bunch of highlight reels starring Sotto in a Dragonflies uniform.
