Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla is the Philippines’ new chef de mission to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Remulla, who was described as “a true sportsman” by its president, Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino.
Tolentino also said Remulla “accepted the position without hesitation and he’s really happy and excited” about it.
Remulla got the role after Al Panlilio begged off amid a hectic schedule that comes with being the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president and chief executive officer of Smart.
The country is also co-hosting the FIBA World Cup this year.
Remulla, the concurrent team manager of the University of the Philippines men’s basketball team, will inherit the daunting task years after the country copped a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics courtesy of Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo.
