Will Mighty Sports ever enter the PBA? Coach Charles Tiu has the answer

Mighty Sports has assembled mighty squads (no pun intended) over the past few years to represent the Philippines in different international tournaments.

The club boasts two Jones Cup titles and the Dubai International Basketball Tournament 2020 crown.

Notable Filipino players and some former PBA imports have previously suited up for Mighty, including Renaldo Balkman, Mikey Williams, Andray Blatche, and Justin Brownlee among others.

Two-time NBA champion and former sixth man of the year Lamar Odom also donned the Mighty blue in 2019.

The Philippine-based squad clearly has the resources, the experience, and the heart for the sport of basketball.

So it begs the question, why hasn't Mighty Sports at least attempted to enter the PBA and play with the "big boys" of Philippine hoops?

A Pinoy fan got curious enough to ask Mighty Sports coach Charles Tiu that question.

And Tiu obliged with the truth.

Turns out, Mighty Sports is not interested in joining the PBA, at least not yet.

"They just want to join international competitions for now. It's too tiring to run a team year-round," the tactician said in a tweet.

Mighty Sports will skip this year's Dubai International Basketball Championship though, with the Strong Group Realty carrying the Philippine squad in their stead.

The tournament will run from January 27 to February 5 and it's safe to assume the Philippine club has a strong group headlined by one-time NBA champion Nick Young.

Although, coach Charles said in a separate tweet that the squad's shape is "insane in the opposite direction."

The Strong Group tactician said they "would be good" if they have a month of preparation but they have to make do with what was given. We'll see how strong they are in two weeks' time.
