The 17-year-old Tallulah Proulx will be bringing plenty of pride for the Philippines in her Olympic debut, as she takes on the giant slalom heavyweights in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games on Sunday, February 15.

Proulx, a Utah-born skiier, is the Philippines first-ever female Winter Olympian. She is also the youngest at 17.

But she will be facing tough opponents in the giant slalom on Sunday, such as reigning World Cup winner and Beijing 2022 gold medalist Sara Hector of Sweden as well as Mikaela Shiffrin of the USA--who holds the record for most World Cup giant slalom wins by a woman with 22.

Giant slalom is a race with an average distance of 20-30 meters between the curves, and takes about one to one and a half minutes to complete. The track has wider curves compared to the special slalom, and the gates are used to mark the course instead of poles.

In the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre, a different venue from the men, there are 47 turning gates out of 51 in a 1,300m long course. Skiers get two runs, and the shortest combined time wins.

Proulx, who started competing in FIS events in 2024, had her best finish at the Mission Ridge Ski Resort in the USA back in March 2025. She finished ninth with runs of 1:15.78 and 1:13.76, 9.86 seconds behind the winner.

The Fil-Am is 74th in a 76-strong field.

Run 1 will be at 5:00 pm, Philippine time, while Run 2 will be at 8:30 pm.

She is the second Filipino athlete to compete in Milano Cortina 2026, after compatriot Francis Ceccarelli finished 54th in the men's giant slalom on Saturday.
