Former San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan will sign as a free agent with the New York Knicks after clearing waivers, his agent told ESPN on Friday, Philippine time.

The Spurs on Thursday released Sochan, who had 10 teams interested and will sign a contract with the Knicks for the rest of the season, agent Deirunas Visockas of Gersh Sports told ESPN.

San Antonio had attempted to trade Sochan, 22, by the league deadline before permitting him to seek a fresh start as a free agent.

A frequent starter in past seasons, Sochan slipped out of coach Mitch Johnson's rotation and played a grand total of eight minutes over the Spurs' last dozen games before Thursday.

For the season, Sochan averaged 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 12.8 minutes over 28 games off the bench for the Spurs. He was a double-digit scorer in each of his first three seasons.

The No. 9 overall draft pick out of Baylor in 2022, Sochan was a member of the 2022-23 All-Rookie Team.

Sochan averaged 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 25.3 minutes over 212 games (149 starts) for San Antonio and was a two-time Rising Stars participant as a rookie and second-year player.
