The Meralco Bolts did not have enough firepower to overcome the Ryukyu Golden Kings, 79-88, in their East Asia Super League do-or-die match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The Bolts started flat, falling into a 17-point hole in the second period before absorbing the loss that kicked them out of contention for the postseason.

Even with Justin Brownlee, Sina Vahedi, Ismael Romero, Caddy Lalane reinforcing the squad, Meralco wrapped up its campaign with a 3-3 mark.

It was Meralco’s third EASL stint.

In six years, no PBA team has broken through the quarterfinals of the regional cage fest.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
