There was no comeback this time for Alex Eala.

Just a day after pulling off an incredible come-from-behind win against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Alex Eala didn’t seem to have the mojo to conjure the same magic as she stumbled to Ekaterina Alexandrova, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Thursday, Feb. 5 (Manila time).

Eala fell to a double break at the onset of the opening frame, then got broken early again in the second as the world No. 11 Alexandrova proved too much for the Filipino bet.

But her journey in the tourney does not end, as the world No. 45 quickly shifts her focus on her doubles campaign with Indonesian Janice Tjen right after her singles exit.

Alexandrova will face the winner in the other quarterfinal pairing between Liudmila Samsonova and Hailey Baptiste.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
