It’s the end of an era as the Atlanta Hawks traded away former franchise cornerstone Trae Young to the Wizards for veteran CJ McCollum and sharpshooter Corey Kispert.
It’s the end of an era in Atlanta.
After more than seven seasons as the face of the franchise, Trae Young has been traded to the Washington Wizards, with the Hawks receiving CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, according to league insider Shams Charania.
The 27-year-old point guard, who had long expressed a preference for Washington, will take over as the Wizards’ lead guard.
Young sat out and watched from the sidelines as Atlanta soared to 117-100 win over the New Orleans Pelicans to snap a two-game-skid.
Despite injuries limiting him this season, Young averaged 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 10 games. Over his career, he has career averages of 25.2 points and 9.8 assists, along with an All-NBA selection.
Atlanta is entering a new chapter, leaning on a young core of Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Onyeka Okongwu and Zaccharie Risacher to claim a breakthrough.
They will receive a veteran scorer in McCollum, who led Washington in scoring at 18.6 points per game this season.
Kispert, who is norming 9.2 points on 39.5% shooting from three this season, provides Atlanta with scoring and wing depth.
