Cam Spencer seized the moment down the stretch, powering the Memphis Grizzlies past the San Antonio Spurs to snap a four-game losing streak.
Cam Spencer delivered in the closing moments, scoring the final five Memphis points — including the go-ahead basket — as the Grizzlies escaped with a tense 106-105 win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, January 7 (PH time).
Trailing 105-101, Spencer buried a clutch 3-pointer with 1:26 remaining to pull Memphis within one at 104-105.
He then knocked down a baseline jumper with 36.5 seconds left in regulation, giving the Grizzlies the lead for good at 106-105.
San Antonio had one last chance, but De’Aaron Fox’s 15-footer in the final seconds was blocked by Santi Aldama, sealing the Grizzlies’ victory as they snapped a four-game skid and improved to 16-20.
Spencer and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 21 points apiece, while Jock Landale added 19 for Memphis, which played a second straight game without star guard Ja Morant due to a right calf contusion.
Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 30 points in just 21 minutes off the bench in his return after missing two games with a bone bruise in his left knee.
Memphis continues its four-game homestand against the Phoenix Suns (21-15), while San Antonio heads home to face the Los Angeles Lakers (23-11).
