Former KBL MVP Ethan Alvano reset his career high in scoring en route to a win for the Wonju DB Promy in the KBL.
Ethan Alvano stole the show and scored his career-high for the Wonju DB Promy in a 98-92 win over Kevin Quiambao and the Goyang Sono Skygunners in KBL regular season action at the Goyang Gymnasium on Saturday.
Alvano, a former KBL MVP, dropped 37 points on 12-of-18 shooting to lead all scorers in the closely-fought game.
He also contributed in other areas, finishing with four rebounds and eight assists.
Alvano’s scoring outburst helped Wonju keep Goyang at bay even as the Skygunners threatened to score an upset thanks to a balanced scoring effort.
Quiambao had 16 points, five rebounds, and six assists to be one of four players in double digits for Goyang. Lee Jong-Hyun was the team’s top scorer with 21 points, while Nathan Knight flirted with the triple-double with 19 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
Wonju has won three of its last four matches and is 15-10 for the year. Meanwhile, Goyang fell to 9-16.
Elsewhere, JD Cagulangan and the Suwon KT Sonicboom started the fourth quarter strong to clinch the 78-75 victory over the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus at the Dongchun Gymnasium.
Despite going into the final period down one, 58-59, Suwon went on an unanswered 11-0 run to gain a 10-point lead early in the fourth, 69-59.
While the Phoebus did try to recover, the Sonicboom did just enough to sustain the win.
Cagulangan had nine points, one rebound, and two assists in the win for Suwon who snapped a three-game losing streak and is now 12-14 for the year.
In the other game, the Seoul SK Knights held off the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus, 67-66.
Daegu could not get the comeback victory even as SJ Belangel fired off 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists, skidding to a league-worst 8-18 record.
Arvin Tolentino, meanwhile, played sparingly for Seoul with one rebound in more than five minutes of play.
Seoul is firmly in the top half of the standings with their 14-11 slate.
