Vince Maglinao delivered a clutch all-around performance to help Cignal secure bronze in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference and extend the franchise’s 16-conference podium streak.
Vince Maglinao couldn’t have picked a better time to deliver a standout performance in Cignal’s most important match in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference.
The versatile hitter stepped up when it mattered most, helping the Super Spikers outlast the Savouge Spin Doctors in a thrilling five-set bronze-medal duel, 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12, on Saturday, November 29, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
The win not only secured third place for Cignal, but it also extended the franchise’s incredible 16-conference podium streak dating back to 2018.
A breakout performance at the perfect moment
Maglinao finished with 12 points and 16 excellent receptions, delivering one of his best all-around outings of the tournament.
But more than the numbers, it was the journey behind them that made the night special.
Throughout the conference, Maglinao shifted between multiple roles, suiting up as a libero, service specialist, or spiker, depending on the team’s needs.
Instead of questioning the constant adjustments, he fully embraced them.
“Sobrang overwhelming. Sobrang saya na andyan ‘yung coaches na natitiwala sa akin,” he told One Sports.
“Kung ano man ‘yung role — mapa-libero, ma-service specialist — tinatanggap ko lang kasi alam ko na ‘yun ‘yung best for me.”
Bronze medal duel that felt like a championship match
After missing the Finals, the Super Spikers entered the bronze match determined to finish strong.
Led by their veterans and fueled by pure grit, Cignal clawed its way back from a 1–2 hole before taking control in the crucial moments of the fifth set.
Though they fell short of defending their title, the Super Spikers walk away with pride as they ended the year with a medal around their necks.
“Alam namin ‘yung puso namin, gusto namin kunin ‘yung bronze medal,” Maglinao shared.
“We treated this game as a championship game din kasi the least we can do for the management, for the supporters, is to get this bronze medal, and alam namin na gusto namin kunin ‘yun.”
