The last time Detroit strung together 13 consecutive wins, the Pistons went on to claim the NBA championship in the 2003–04 season.
The last time a Pistons squad rattled off 13 wins in a row, they ended up raising a championship banner in 2004.
And if this season is any indication, Detroit fans can’t help but imagine a similar glory ahead if the team can sustain their blistering form.
Cade Cunningham uncorked 24 points as the Pistons survived a late Indiana Pacers rally for a 122-117 escape, matching their longest winning streak in franchise history at 13 games on Tuesday, November 25 (PH time).
Cunningham added 11 rebounds and six assists in another all-round effort as Jalen Duren posted a double-double of 17 markers and 12 boards.
Detroit built a 115-101 lead with under five minutes left in regulation, only for Indiana to launch a 16-5 run to make it a single possession game at 117-115 off two Isaiah Jackson freebies.
Cunningham, however, connected on a swift hook shot to make it 119-115 with 25 ticks left as the Pistons managed to hold and escaped with the win.
Reigning East Finals MVP Pascal Siakam paced the Pacers with 24 points, with Walker chipping in 21 off the bench.
But the Pacers’ collective effort fell short against the red-hot Pistons. Indiana slides to a 2–15 record for the second-worst in the East.
Detroit goes for its 14th straight win on the road against the Boston Celtics (9–8), while the Indiana travels north to challenge the Toronto Raptors (12–5).
