In the 16th minute of the first half, Carina Nunez broke free from the Moroccan defense, putting up a shot that hit the goal post.
Fortunately, Ontiveros was there for the follow-up, which opened the floodgates for the World No. 6 squad.
“Very happy, very happy,” Ontiveros told reporters in Spanish, smiling as she recalled her landmark goal.
“I visualized that moment a lot — arriving here, being able to be in the World Cup. I wanted to score a goal in the first game, and luckily it happened, and it was the first one. That makes me very happy.”

Despite the intense Philippine humidity, Ontiveros said the experience of playing in the country has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Very good — a lot of heat, a lot of heat — but we are doing very well,” she said.
“The people are very kind, and we are very happy to be here.”

With Argentina widely considered a powerhouse in Group A, Ontiveros said that her team is taking it game by game.
“We have been working for a long time to do things the best we can,” she said.
“We know we have to win all three games to move on; it’s an obligation. We are calm; we are going step by step. It's an honor to be Argentinian.”
Argentina will face Poland next at the same venue Monday, Nov. 24.
