After a grueling WTA season, Alex Eala will be adhering to national team duties as she plans to suit up for the 2025 Southeast Games in Thailand.
Alex Eala is expected see action once again before the year ends, this time as part of the Philippine women’s tennis team at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
In a text message to One Sports, Eala’s father Mike confirmed the development.
"Yes, the plan is for her to compete in the SEA Games Women's Singles Tennis event," said the elder Eala.
The 20-year-old Alex is also currently home for a few weeks of rest and relaxation after a lengthy WTA season that saw multiple breakthroughs — including her first-ever WTA Challenger title, her first Grand Slam main draw singles win, and career-high rankings.
Eala previously suited up for the Philippines for the Vietnam SEA Games in 2022, where she nabbed three bronze medals.
She ended with a podium finish in singles, mixed doubles, and team events.
Eala has also won bronze medals from the Hangzhou Asian Games in singles and mixed doubles.
Just last year, Eala also led the Philippine team to a dominant 5-0 sweep in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group II. She was undefeated in singles, and in doubles with teammates Marian Capadocia, Khim Iglupas, and Shaira Hope Rivera.
The Philippines successfully got promoted to Group I thanks to Eala’s contributions.
Now, Eala hopes to tally more medals in her national team career.
The 2025 SEA Games unfurls on December 9 and will run through December 20.
Tennis will be played at the National Tennis Development Center in Muang Thong Thani in Pak Kret Nothanburi.
