Alex Eala continues her Asian swing as she faces Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round of qualifying for the Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open 2025 on Saturday, October 4, at 5:30 p.m.

Seeded fifth in the qualifying draw, the 20-year-old Filipina enters the tournament ranked world no. 58.

Eala has shown consistency on the tour in recent weeks, reaching the semifinals in Jingshan and the quarterfinals in Suzhou, where she fell in three sets to Swiss veteran Viktorija Golubic on Friday.

The Wuhan Open marks Eala’s return to a WTA 1000 stage, her first since the Canadian Open last July.

Her opponent, Uchijima, comes into the match as world no. 92.

The Japanese standout climbed as high as no. 47 earlier this year and made headlines with a quarterfinal run at the Madrid Open, one of her best results of the 2025 season.

With both players eager to start strong, Eala will look to ride her recent momentum and keep building experience at the highest level, while Uchijima aims to prove her pedigree as a former top-50 player.
