After an intense group play that saw stellar outings and shockers, seven players stood the tallest in as many departments in the FIVB Men’s World Championship.

As competition takes a break before plunging into the Round of 16, let’s go over the top performers in the competition.

TOP SCORER: Ferre Reggers (Belgium)

The 22-year-old Ferre Reggers averaged 24.33 points per match in pool play and has 73 points overall. Who could also forget his 31-point outburst in Belgium’s 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13 win against defending champion Italy?

TOP ATTACKER: Aleksandar Nikolov (Bulgaria)

When it comes to offense, Bulgaria’s Aleksandar is a cut above the rest. He has 63 attack points so far, just one ahead of Reggers. No wonder Bulgaria has beaten two top 10 teams on the way to the Round of 16.

TOP BLOCKER: Petteri Tyynismaa (Finland)

Defense is just as important as offense. Just ask Petteri Tyynismaa of Finland. The 21-year-old, who averaged four blocks in three games, is instrumental in Finland beating France stunning back-to-back Olympic champion France and advancing to the next phase of the tournament. He made six blocks against Argentina and five against the French.

TOP SERVER: Michiel Ahyi (Netherlands)

Michiel Ahyi has been steady from the service area, leading the tournament in aces with 12, including five in Netherlands 25-23, 26-24, 26-24 win against Romania.

TOP SETTER: Luciano De Cecco (Argentina)

Behind Argentina’s early success is a sage player running the point. Yes, we’re talking about Luciano De Cecco, the 37-year-old setter who led La Selección to a sweep of Pool C, highlighted by a five-set thriller against France. His 137 excellent sets lead the competition that also boasts of top setters in Arshia Behnezhad (126) and Fernando Gil Kreling (115).

TOP DIGGER: Gorik Lantsoght (Belgium)

When it comes to salvaging possessions, there’s no one better than Belgium’s Gorik Lantsoght so far. The 19-year-old has 33 excellent digs under his belt in three games and a success rate of 62.26%.

TOP RECEIVER: Luka Marttila (Finland)

Finland has the best defenders so far, with Tynnismaa leading the league in block department and Luka Marttila providing stellar floor defense. In three ganes, Marttila tallied 27 reception and a 30.34% success rate.
