When it comes to national team duty, count on Terrence Romeo to show up.

The former Gilas Pilipinas star is answering the call anew, this time as member of the Manila Melmac in the FIBA 3x3 Manila Challenger.

“Unang-una, tumawag sa akin si kuya Mel na kung puwede akong maglaro sa 3x3… so sabi ko kay kuya Mel, kung para sa bayan maglalaro ako,” he said, referring to Melmac Sports founder Mel Macasaquit.

“And hindi ko kailangan ng any offer or what basta para sa bayan, I'm available kapag kailangan ako.”

His addition is a big boost for the team gunning for a spot at the Macau Masters in October.

Romeo, who is returning to the 3x3 scene 10 years since donning the Manila West jersey, brings championship pedigree to the team having won three PBA titles with the San Miguel Beermen.

In one of those conquests, he was adjudged Finals MVP.

It is hoped that his winning ways will rub off on the team also featuring seasoned 3x3 cager Mac Tallo, Abdul Sawat, and Henry Iloka, with Chico Lanete serving as coach.

“Halos lahat kami may certain talent na kaya naming humanap ng way umiscore or mag-contribute sa team,” said Romeo.

Tallo, a fixture in the 3x3 circuit, is absolutely thrilled with the arrival of his idol and three-time PBA Scoring Champion.

“Sobrang threat na ng team namin… gusto ko lumevel up sa laro ni Terrence or more than that,” Tallo said.

Manila Melmac takes the floor on Sept. 20 against Chongming and Lugano at the Ayala Malls By The Bay.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
