György Grozer and Germany close Pool E action against Slovenia in the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship.
Business has picked up for Germany in the FIVB Men’s World Championship.
Captain and veteran spiker György Grozer made it clear where his team stands heading into a decisive group finale against Slovenia: “All in.”
“We need to risk everything we have. All the team needs to be ready, all 14 players. We need to be aggressive from the beginning and need to fight to the end. This is the most important.”
The statement came after Germany secured its first win of these world championships, sweeping Chile, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21, on Monday, September 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 40-year-old Grozer paced the German attack with 19 points, while Erik Röhrs added 13 and Anton Brehme chipped in 10.
Vicente Parraguirre led Chile with 14 points, but the South Americans dropped to 0-2 in Pool E.
Reflecting on the match, Grozer acknowledged improvements after the initial loss to Bulgaria but admitted the team has more to show.
“Today was better, of course. Chile fought strong against us as you saw in the second and third set, they never gave up,” he said.
“Our performance in a couple of elements was much better, but still we didn’t reach [the level] of how we can play. I hope the third game will be better again and we can win against Slovenia.”
