Germany captured its second EuroBasket championship — and first in more than three decades — after outlasting Turkiye, 88-83, in a back-and-forth finale on Monday (PH time).

The reigning world champions had to rally from an early 11-point deficit before clawing through a tense contest that featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes.

The decisive swing came in the final 75 seconds, when Dennis Schroder drove for a go-ahead layup to put Germany up 84-83.

Much like his heroics at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Schroder took over late, drilling a jumper with 19 seconds left to seal the win.

He finished with 16 points and 12 assists, later earning EuroBasket MVP honors to go with his World Cup MVP trophy.

Isaac Bonga paced Germany with 20 points, while Franz Wagner added 18. The title makes Germany just the fourth nation — joining Spain, Yugoslavia, and the Soviet Union — to win EuroBasket as the reigning world champion.

Alperen Sengun starred for Turkiye with 28 points, but his effort wasn’t enough to deny the Germans their first European crown since 1993.
