Alyssa Solomon begins a new chapter with Japan’s Osaka Marvelous, becoming the latest Filipino star to test her mettle in the SV.League after a decorated run with NU and Alas Pilipinas.
Three-time UAAP champion Alyssa Solomon is officially heading overseas, joining powerhouse Japanese club Osaka Marvelous in the SV.League.
The defending SV.League champions made the move official on Tuesday, September 16.
Solomon’s decision to continue her career in Japan comes as little surprise.
The 23-year-old opposite spiker had long expressed her desire to play overseas, initially expressing her intention to join the Korean league via the KOVO Draft.
However, Solomon withdrew her application as to not lose her UAAP eligibility, which ended up working in her favor as the Lady Bulldogs made a successful UAAP Season 87 title defense last April.
She then passed up 2025 PVL Draft to keep the door open for opportunities abroad.
The opportunity was presented by Osaka, where fellow NU alumna Jaja Santiago [Sachi Minowa] played for the last two seasons.
This move officially ends Solomon's decorated collegiate run highlighted by three UAAP championships, a Finals MVP award, and two Best Opposite Spiker citations.
On the international stage, Solomon also shone with Alas Women, bagging back-to-back SEA V.League Best Opposite Spiker awards while helping the team clinch silver at the AVC Nations Cup and four bronze medals across different SEA V.League legs.
In Japan, Solomon will eventually face off against Minowa, who left the Marvelous to join the Denso Airybees, the same team where setter Jia De Guzman once played.
Solomon now joins a growing list of Filipinos that have competed in the SV.League, which also includes Maddie Madayag, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Marck Espejo, Bryan Bagunas, and upcoming import Leo Aringo.
