Alex Eala will be plunging right back into action as she faces off against French hitter Yasmine Mansouri in the Round of 32 of the SP Open in Brazil on Wednesday (PH time).

Eala, who is coming off a WTA Challenger title in Guadalajara, will test her mettle in the WTA 250 tiff that marks the return of the WTA to the Brazilian City for the first time in over two decades.

On paper, Eala holds the upper hand as the no. 3 seed in Brazil. Meanwhile, Mansouri is currently ranked world no. 380 heading into the tiff.

Mansouri, 24, currently does not have any WTA titles and achieved a career-high ranking of no. 314 — a far cry from Eala who saw her ranking rise to no. 61 earlier this week.

Mansouri does have experience, though, as she has been in the WTA Tour since 2022; debuting in the main draw of the 2022 Jasmin Open where she lost in the first round of the tournament.

Her ITF career is more decorated, with five titles in singles and 14 titles in doubles.

Her most recent trophy was won in February this year at the W15 tournament in Monastir, Tunisia where she won the doubles crown along with Serbia’s Elena Milovanovic.

She previously played in NCAA Division 1-level tennis in the US with Duke University.

Mansouri and Eala have never met before in their professional tennis careers.

For 2025, Mansouri has a near .500 slate in singles with a 25-24 win-loss record, according to the WTA website.
