Slovenian spiker Rok Mozic shares his heartbreak over missing the FIVB Worlds in Manila, expressing gratitude to Filipino fans who have always welcomed him warmly.
Slovenian star Rok Mozic has confirmed he will not be able to suit up in the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in Manila, with a lingering knee injury forcing him to the sidelines
Mozic, one of the most electric scorers in international volleyball, shared the heartbreaking news through an emotional Instagram post, saying his recovery progress wasn’t enough for him to compete at the highest level this September.
“Unfortunately, the inflammation in my knee is still too severe for me to be ready in time for a tournament like the World Championship,” Mozic wrote. “At the final check-up, the doctor said that while progress is visible, the risk is still too great.”
“For some time I am not allowed to jump. I am disappointed. Sad. Mentally, this has drained me more than any championship.”
But beyond missing the world stage, the 23-year-old spiker expressed that what hurts the most is not being able to return to the Philippines, a place he says holds a special place in his heart.
Mozic led the Slovenians' charge back in the 2023 Volleyball Nations League Manila Leg. During that time, Filipinos quickly showed their love for Mozic, something he still remembers to this day.
“I wanted it so badly and was looking forward to the World Championship in the Philippines,” he said. “Also because the Philippines has a special place in my heart. The fans there always welcome me so warmly and support me throughout the whole season.”

Mozic’s absence will be a massive blow for the world No. 20 as they chase their first-ever world championship podium finish. Still, the fiery outside hitter promised he’ll be backing his teammates every step of the way.
Slovenia is pitted in Pool E, where they will face Germany, Bulgaria, and Chile.
“It won’t be easy, but I’ll be there to support the team as they head off to the championship, and I’ll cheer for them in front of the TV screen,” he said.
