For years, Shaina and Judiel Nitura had been on the same side of the volleyball court.

From their childhood at the California Academy to countless training sessions during their formative years, they were side by side until they went their separate ways in high school and college.

Playing for Letran, Judiel found herself across the net from Shaina and Adamson, who went on to score a straight-sets victory, 25-18, 25-17, 25-16, in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

"Siyempre malaking nabago kasi since Grade 4 ako kasama ko siya, tas siya Grade 3, bata pa kami,” Judiel shared. “So that time, ilang years na rin nakalipas na hindi talaga kami nagkakalaban talaga, so ngayon lang ulit naglaban."

“Parang excited naman pero at the same time, nakaka-feel lang din ng tension pero 'yun laban pa din,” she added.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated game, the Nitura sisters received a simple but powerful reminder from their mother, Marie, who was watching from the sidelines.

“Unang-una, mag-thank you kay Lord kasi Siya nagbibigay sa amin ng lakas ng loob at naggi-guide palagi,” Judiel shared. “Sabi niya, tapangan lang lagi. Kahit sino kaharap namin, dapat walang takot.”

Despite being on the losing end, Judiel couldn’t help but beam with pride for Shaina, who scored 10 points for Adamson in the win.

Judiel herself top-scored for Letran with 13 markers, but for her, the numbers were secondary. What mattered most was finally sharing the court again—even as opponents.

“Sobrang proud ako sayo sister. Lagi mong galingan and lagi kang mag-ingat, and always prays kasi nandiyan lang lagi kapamahakan sa atin so lagi tayong mag-iingat,” she said.

The Nitura siblings could possibly meet once more in the playoffs, with the Lady Knights looking to secure a top-4 finish. Adamson is safely through to the next round as the no. 1 team in the standings with a 6-0 mark.
