Only eight teams stand between the four semifinal spots as the knockout rounds of the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship heats up in Thailand.

Japan made quick work of Thailand to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face the Netherlands.

Hinotori Nippon is aiming for its first semifinal appearance since 2014, having missed out in the past three editions.

The Dutch, on the other hand, are coming off a stunning Round of 16 upset over two-time defending champion Serbia, making it past that stage for the first time since 2018.

This quarterfinal will also serve as a rematch of their 2025 VNL group-stage encounter last June, where Japan swept the Netherlands 25-17, 25-16, 25-16, but ultimately missed the podium.

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champions Italy are set for a marquee duel with Poland in a rematch of this year’s VNL semifinals.

The Italians dispatched the Germans, 25-22, 25-18, 25-11, while the Polish team avoided a late-game collapse to eliminate the Belgians in a gritty five-setter.

In their last encounter, Italy rallied from a 2-1 set deficit to oust Poland in the VNL group stage last June.

Reigning Olympic silver medalist USA will face a familiar opponent in Turkey for a semifinal spot.

This marks their first meeting since the 2022 FIVB Women’s World Championship, when Team USA eliminated Turkey in the quarterfinals on its way to capturing the bronze medal.

Both teams earned commanding sweeps to reach the final eight, with the Americans defeating Canada and the Turkish team easing past Slovenia.

Finally, 2022 runners-up Brazil will meet France for the second time in the tournament — this time in a win-or-go-home showdown.

Earlier, the Brazilians completed a stunning reverse sweep against the French in Pool C play, finishing at the top of the group and ousting the Dominican Republic in the Round of 16.

The reigning Olympic bronze medalists are aiming for their third semifinal appearance in the last four editions, but standing in their way is a confident France squad, fresh off a monumental upset of two-time world champion China.
