FIBA issued a ban on a spectator following an incident involving racism towards Germany star Dennis Schroder during a EuroBasket 2025 game against Lithuania.
The incident happened at halftime of the Germany-Lithuania game, which the reigning FIBA World Champions won in convincing fashion, 107-88.
Schroder led the way with a game-high 26 points, six assists, and four steals.
Upon CCTV review, the spectator was identified and was subsequently banned from attending ay further EuroBasket 2025 games.
“FIBA unequivocally condemns hate speech, discriminatory conduct, and racist language in any form. Creating an inclusive, respectful, and safe environment for players, teams, and fans remains a fundamental priority of our sport,” FIBA said in a statement.
Schroder, also the reigning FIBA World Cup MVP, addressed the incident on social media.
“I wish the people who made the monkey sounds were brave enough to do this outside the arena,” he said.
Schroder has been a fixture to Germany’s national team since his debut in 2014. For his career including the ongoing EuroBasket, he is averaging 20.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists.
Germany’s bronze medal from EuroBasket 2022, with Schroder as the team’s leading scorer, was the country’s first major tournament medal since 2005.
