The PBA is sending only one team to compete in the East Asia Super League’s 2025-26 season.

The league announced Thursday, July 31, that Meralco will be the lone Philippine representative in the regional club league, where champions from the region lock horns.

The Bolts will open their EASL campaign on Oct. 22 against the Japan B.LEAGUE’s Ryukyu Golden Kings in their foes' home country.

Since the PBA is going to have a busy schedule for its 50th season, the league consequently opted to deploy only the Bolts.

“Maraming games, so hindi puwedeng dalawang teams ang ilaban natin. Mahirap para sa schedule natin," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial.

Meralco is coming off a quarterfinal finish in the Basketball Champions League Asia in Dubai.

Despite having a hectic schedule in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup, the Bolts managed to score wins in the BCL Asia before falling to Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos, 78-83, at the Coca-Cola Arena last June 11.
